2020 COVID-19 Reoping Plans

Written by

Pursuant to the Department of Health’s Interim Guidance for In-Person Instruction at Pre-K to Grade 12 Schools during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, The Hebrew Academy (THA)has developed an individual plan for reopening and operating during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Our school services 80 students ages 18 months through 5th grade. Our 35,000 square foot facility has 17 classrooms, a synagogue and multi-purpose room, gymnasium, art, computer, music and science labs, 2 large multi-sport courts and play fields on 4 acres of land.

Our educational program encompasses religious and general studies, and therefore most of our 25 member staff are part-timers. Our classrooms range between 500-600 sq. ft., and with an average of 8 students per grade, we should be able to easily social distance in and out of the classroom.

The many steps that need to take place before reopening are being reviewed by our administration and  our consultants in preparation for this exciting and eagerly anticipated moment. We will be guided by the following principles in our reopening; safety, ongoing consultations with experts, educational needs, the need for fluidity and flexibility, and our campus’ physical realities.

Matanot L'evyonim

Written by

Dear Parents,

For the past twenty-nine years, Day Schools throughout the United States, Canada and Australia have assisted a well-known organization, Od Yosef Chai, in a pre-Purim campaign to raise funds which are distributed to the poor in Jerusalem on Purim day.

As you know, one of the requirements of the holiday of Purim is "Matanot L'evyonim" (gifts for the poor) whereby we are to give monetary gifts to at least two poor people. Many of us are not personally acquainted with people in dire need to whom we can give these gifts on Purim day; however, we now have the opportunity to fulfill this mitzvah by supporting this endeavor.

Od Yosef Chai is committed to helping the poor in a manner that does not compromise the recipient's dignity and self-respect. Much thought and effort is given to the achievement of this goal.

Torah educators have hailed this project for its great educational value. We have received a beautiful, educational magazine from Od Yosef Chai, which teaches important Jewish values and inspires to assist those who are in need.

Through exercising our responsibility toward those who are less fortunate, we can make the world a better place for us all.

Please lend this project your full support and send in your generous donation with your child. You will have helped further your child's Torah education, fulfilled one of the great mitzvot of the day of Purim and brightened the lives of many poor in Holy Land.

Sincerely yours,
The Hebrew Academy

School Read-in

Written by

Dear Parents:

The Hebrew Academy will be having an exciting activity on Thursday, February 12, 2015. We will be celebrating a school-wide "Read-In". A "Read-In" is a wonderful activity to promote the love of reading.

A portion of the afternoon will be set aside for the students to participate in this wonderful event. The students are encouraged to bring in their favorite book or books to read. Your child can read individually or share a book with a friend. A cozy environment will be created in our classrooms. Your child will be allowed to bring in a pillow to relax on while they are reading. This activity is fun, as well as educational.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 634-0951.
