Dear Parents:

Sunday, November 4, 2012 is fast approaching.  Mark your calendars for the Annual Family Dinner Extravaganza.  Delicious food will be served and fun entertainment will be provided for the children.  The sign up deadlnie has been extended to Monday, October 22nd.  The cost for this wonderful event is $25.00 for the whole family!  Also, we are still looking for services or goods that can be raffled off.  Please contact Mrs. Vaspol at 634-0951.

Dear Parents,

As a service to the community The Hebrew Academy is offering the opportunity to do kapparot at only $13 per chicken/rooster. In preparation for Yom Kippur it is customary to perform the kaparot (symbolic for atonement) ceremony.

Please send lunch and snacks with your child tomorrow, Friday, September 7, as the Pizza Program has not yet commenced. You will receive the Pizza order forms next week if you  wish to order pizza, fries and/or drinks for your child. The Pizza Program will begin next week Friday, September 14, 2012. If you purchased the lunch program, please be advised that it runs from Monday through Thursday and not on Friday.

Dear CECC (Chabad Early Childhood Center) Parents,

Preschool has gotten off to such a great start and the children look so happy! To make things easier for you at pick up time we have a pickup routine:

For pickup on Mondays - Thursdays:

The CECC children will be ready to be picked up from 3:20 - 3:30 pm. All you have to do is drive up to the front of school and not park your car. We will bring your child out to the entrance as soon as we see you drive up. Please do not leave your car when you do this as the traffic must be able to continue. If you wish to leave your car, please park it in the lot. Children who are not picked up by 3:30 pm will be sent to Aftercare and charges will apply.

We do have Aftercare available. The rates are attached.

For pickup on Fridays:

The CECC children will be ready to be picked up from 1:10 - 1:15 pm. You may drive up to the front of school and not park your car. We will bring your child out to the entrance as soon as we see you drive up. Please make sure your car is not left in front of the school from 1:20 pm as the school busses need to be there from then to pick up the older students.

Dear Parents,

The first days of school are fraught with many difficulties: students becoming familiar with new teachers and curricula, learning to wake up earlier than the summer vacation days, school bus issues etc. To add to that many parents are finding traffic on New Hempstead Road impossible. Just to reassure you - all beginnings are difficult. This too shall pass and I assure you, within a week, things will settle down and become easier!

Dear Parents,

As you are aware, our students took the Terra Nova tests in June. Terra Nova's are standardized tests which are given to students all across the country.  We are extremely proud to advise you that not only did our students obtain scores one year above their grade level, but in many cases we had students whose scores are 3 to 4 grade levels above.

For example:

The Grade Mean Equivalent for Third Grade:

Reading: 7.9 (7th grade 9th month)
Language Arts: 6.6
Math:  6.2
Science: 5.7
Social Studies:  5.5

The Grade Mean Equivalent for Fifth Grade:

Reading: 10.6
Language Arts: 9.4
Math: 11.0
Science: 12.8
Social Studies: 10.4

As a private school, it is our goal to provide outstanding education.  The caliber of our teaching staff together with the implementation of innovative new educational programs and technology have helped our students achieve success; and we feel that the Terra Nova scores confirm this. We are very proud of their accomplishments. The actual Terra Nova tests will be sent to you under separate cover.

Dear Parents:

As a preventive measure, it is now mandatory that all of our students be checked for nits before the start of our new school year. No child will be admitted into our school without a professional nit inspection.

Mrs. Fischer, a professional nit checker, will be here at The Hebrew Academy on Wednesday, August 29th, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. After this initial inspection, Mrs. Fischer will then continue to come each month to check our students to ensure that we do not encounter any outbreaks.

The cost of Mrs. Fischer's services is listed below. It is a minimal, one-time cost per child per year.

  • One child - $25.00
  • Second child - $20.00 (plus $25.00 for first child)
  • Third child - $15.00 (plus $25.00 and $20.00)

If for some reason you are not available on this date, you can set up a private appointment with Mrs. Fischer at an additional charge of $10.00. Her phone number is 845-352-7597. The best solution for eliminating nits permanently in the school is preventive medicine.

The last day of school for ALL GRADES (Toddler - 8th Grade) is Wednesday, June 20, 2012.

Dismissal for CECC - Toddler, Nursery and Pre K - is at 1:15 pm sharp.

Dismissal for Kindergarten - 8th Grade is at 1:30 pm sharp. Busses will transport the children at 1:30 pm.

Dear parents,

We would like to remind you that the Pre-K class will be going on a trip to Van Saun Park  (Paramus NJ), tomorrow, June 12th.

Please make sure to send in with your child a bag including:

  • A sun hat/ cap
  • A packed lunch from home (no  glass; all items must be disposable)
  • 2 water bottles ( 1 refrigerated, 1 frozen)

Please make sure to drop off your child's carseat/ booster.

Dear CECC Parents,

The end of the year has come so quickly! It's amazing to see how much your children have grown and matured; like beautiful flowers! Their smiling sweet faces yearning to learn are a sight to behold and one I look forward to seeing every morning.

A)  Before the year finally ends we would like to cordially invite the parents to a short in-class colabrative activity. It will begin shortly after morning drop off, at 9:45 am, and end at approximately 10:15 am. Please make note of your child's class's date:

  • Nursery - Monday, June 18, 2012,  9:45 am - 10:15 am.
  • Toddler - Wednesday, June 20, 2012,  9:45 am - 10:15 am.

 

Should either parent not be able to attend, please feel free to send a grandparent, aunt or uncle or other relative.

B)  We would also like to notify you that the last day of school has been changed from Thursday to Wednesday, June 20, 2012. All classes will finish on Wednesday at 1:30 pm.

We are so excited about The Hebrew Academy's Third Annual Science Fair which is being conducted on Tuesday, May 15th. By participating in this fair, the students have had a wonderful opportunity to explore the fascinating world of scientific investigation as well as enhance their research, writing, thinking, listening and speaking skills.

In preparation for this fair, the students in grades 2 through 8 are responsible for completing a research report and creating a Tri-board which will be displayed at the fair. The children must also be prepared to talk about their scientific findings to a panel of judges.

Students in grades Kindergarten through 1st have been working on a classroom project with their teachers. They have been working real hard and are doing very exciting experiments.

On Tuesday, May 15th, the students will bring their projects to school and will be given an opportunity to set them up in the gym. The actual fair will begin at 2:00 p.m.

Parents are invited to attend Tuesday evening, May 15th, at 7:00 p.m. to view the amazing projects that our students have diligently worked on. Exciting awards will be given out to the students during this evening event.

We look forward to seeing you and sharing this exciting experience!!!
